Melboure Sinfonia Auxiliary
Raising funds to support the RCH's Gatehouse Centre
Area: Parkville / Melbourne-wide
The Story So Far
The Melbourne Sinfonia was formed in 1990 and since then has presented regular concerts performing music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern repertoire.
Over the course of those 22 years the Melbourne Sinfonia has featured many established local artists and talented students. The current Music Director is Joannes Roose who has been with the orchestra since 1994.
As such, money raised through presenting concerts is used to support the RCH’s Gatehouse Centre.
The orchestra is comprised of fifty or so musicians from a variety of professional and musical backgrounds. The players commit much time to the auxiliary because, of course, significant rehearsal time is needed in addition to that required for the performances. Additionally, Melbourne Sinfonia is supported by a number of non-musician volunteers.
What we are working on
The Melbourne Sinfonia Auxiliary supports The Royal Children’s Hospital’s Gatehouse, a centre for the assessment and treatment of child abuse. They provide counselling, crisis and support services to children young people and their families where abuse has occurred or is suspected.
