kooyong lawn tennis club AUXILIARY
Raising funds for wish list items, giving the Foundation the ability to respond to the most pressing needs of the hospital.
Area: Eastern suburbs
THE STORY SO FAR
Back in 1938, women weren't allowed to play tennis at the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club on Saturdays. However, many wives and friends joined the men at the club for drinks after their tennis games. One husband suggested that these women get proactive and raise some money to allow him to purchase a dental chair for use at The Royal Children's Hospital Outpatient department, and so, with their support, this request was accomplished.
Then another tennis player, also a doctor at the RCH, asked them to raise funds for his department. This is how the Royal Children's Hospital Kooyong Auxiliary began 72 years ago, and its work continues to this day.
WHAT WE ARE WORKING ON
Funds raised by the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club Auxiliary are directed towards the hospital wish list - these funds are to used to purchase much-needed equipment in various departments. Purchases made possible by the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club include a Otodynamia analyzer for the Enterology Deparment and filters for the Intensive Care Unit. The auxiliary hosts a variety of events each year to raise funds including an annual tennis tournament, raffles, luncheons and film nights.
