Do-Bees Auxiliary

Raising funds for research for the Developmental Medicine department

Area: Glen Waverley

The story so far

Do-Bees Auxiliary was founded in December 2008 when Beryl and I decided we wanted to concentrate our efforts on raising funds for Developmental Medicine in our own area, in our own time and when we were available.  Peter is happy to be our Treasurer, our daughter does our Art work and friends like Karen, Marlene and Pauline fill in to assist when we need extra hands.  Both Beryl and I sneak away for an annual holiday (I escape the winter) so we try hard to make best use of our time and energy when we are in Melbourne.  We had been happy members of Waverley Auxiliary but the travel was becoming a problem as everything was, quite properly, in the Mount Waverley/Glen Waverley area and it was a way from Croydon to any event.  We have been able to run stalls and attend outside activities like the Flower Show.  Beryl creates beautiful craft while I concentrate on the food production side.  We each work with groups of friends who provide us with extra craft items to sell and raffle so we are grateful for their input. We are happy working together as we complement each others skills.  We hope to continue our support for the Department of Developmental Medicine .

what we are working on

Do-Bees mainly raises money by selling craft items and food (jams, preserves and cakes) as well as donated items on stalls in at the RCH. Its members have manned merchandise stalls and formerly helped in the Gift Shop. Beryl is involved in the Made by Us group. The auxiliary's goal is to continue to raise needed funds for Developmental Medicine department so that children might become free of some of these disabilities.
