Equipment and technology
The Foundation supports the purchase of life-changing and life-saving equipment used in clinical care and surgical procedures across many departments of the hospital. Progressive equipment and technology helps the RCH enhance the quality of health care provided to all patients.
For our patients, access to the most advanced technology provides a myriad of benefits. Modern technology decreases the length of stay in hospital for some patients. For example, equipment enabling less invasive surgery aids recovery times. New technology and equipment can also reduce the number of procedures and the number of anaesthetics a child may need. This improves the patient experience. Access to more detailed medical information can even prevent the need for surgery in some cases, or, when it is necessary, increase the chances of success.
Advanced technology and equipment give RCH staff invaluable assistance and a more accurate picture of the patient’s health issues, through features such as 3D imaging and tiny data reading devices.
Although the latest equipment may come with a substantial price tag, for example the $12.65 million Intraoperative Magnetic Resonance Imaging System (IMRIS), this kind of state-of-the-art equipment means that the RCH is best placed to ensure the highest standard of health care.
Alonside IMRIS, some more examples of state-of-the-art equipment and technology at the RCH that has been funded through donations are the isolette incubator cribs for neonatal babies, and our specially designed patient calling system and patient flow system.
Technology plays an important role in the RCH’s vision and the lives it saves are priceless.
